In military language, “collusion with the enemy” refers to treason, complicity with the adversary. FX Combes appropriates this phrase to make it a key to understanding his artistic practice. The enemy here is not a foreign power, but the machine, technical imperfection, bugs, printing or screen-printing accidents. Anything that, a priori, resists the artist, anything that escapes control. Where others would seek to eliminate these flaws, FX Combes chooses to engage with them. His “intelligence” consists in accepting flaws, collaborating with anomalies, and transforming resistance into a resource. It is a paradoxical pact: working with what thwarts him, welcoming the enemy in order to draw creative strength from it. Thus, each image reflects a dual movement: the desire for control and openness to the unexpected. The artist does not oppose error, he invites it. In this space of friction, between intention and accident, a singular aesthetic unfolds where the enemy ceases to be an obstacle and becomes an ally.

FX Combes détourne cette formule pour en faire une clé de lecture de sa pratique artistique. L’ennemi, ici, ce n’est pas une puissance étrangère, mais la machine, l’imperfection technique, le bug, l’accident d’impression ou de sérigraphie. Tout ce qui, a priori, résiste à l’artiste, tout ce qui échappe au contrôle. Là où d’autres chercheraient à éliminer ces failles, FX Combes choisit de dialoguer avec elles. Son « intelligence » consiste à accepter le défaut, à collaborer avec l’anomalie, à transformer la résistance en ressource. C’est un pacte paradoxal : travailler avec ce qui contrarie, accueillir l’ennemi pour en tirer une force créative. Ainsi, chaque image témoigne d’un double mouvement : la volonté de maîtrise et l’ouverture à l’imprévu. L’artiste ne s’oppose pas à l’erreur, il l’invite. Dans cet espace de friction, entre intention et accident, se déploie une esthétique singulière où l’ennemi cesse d’être un obstacle pour devenir un allié.
